Melanie and I joined my family for her first ever Black Friday shopping experience. Melanie is making The Off Grid Project coffee coasters using recycled pallet wood.

The day after Thanksgiving it is family tradition to head out in the fan and shop for the Black Friday deals. My family do not head out early in order to avoid the crowds and madness. But even though we dont leave home until about 9 in the morning we still see some serious crowds in the stores.

We had a good Thanksgiving together and Melanie really loved the turkey. This was her first time to eat real, unprocessed turkey meat. She has previously only known turkey lunch meat. She loved the turkey but found out that you really do get tired after eating it.

Black Friday we headed out to our favorite stores to pick up some items that we wanted.

Melanie and I just switched our cell phones over to contracts in order to get better deals and we both got new tablets for free. We found some tablet cases with bluetooth keyboards which we needed plus SD cards for our new devices.

My Sister and Mother were with us and we all only filled one cart at the main store we shop at so we figure we did not over shop too badly.

Melanie and I needed certain items anyway so we had budgeted this trip into our plans.

Melanie is doing a great job on wood burning The Off Grid Project coffee coasters. I had cut a mess of blanks from pallet wood back home at the off grid homestead before we left for Michigan.

Melanie sanded the parts with a sander I bought just for her. Then she hand drew The Off Grid Project logo on the blanks and burnt them in with a wood burner. Melanie is quite talented so this is the perfect project for her.

She also drew a beautiful flower on a coffee coaster blank.

We plan to set these up for sale soon. I am using only all natural and heat treated lumber for our projects. There were no chemicals in contact with this wood ever. These were one time use crates for large small engine equipment such as lawn mowers, snow blowers and garden tillers. These are shipped empty of fluids so the wood is clean and safe to use.

We will apply a finish coat on the coffee coasters when we are done and put them up for sale soon.
