Watch as Better Homes and Gardens shows you how to make your best coffee ever! Discovering how to brew coffee perfectly every time is a skill that even some of the most accomplished cooks have trouble with, but with these simple guidelines, you'll be making delicious coffee each time. No matter the coffee brewing method you use, you'll start out with freshly ground coffee beans. Darker coffee beans boast a more bitter flavor while light beans offer a milder taste. You can also combine the two types to make a brew all your own. Investing in a coffee grinder is a worthwhile investment to procure great-tasting coffee each time, as coffee beans lose their flavor quickly. The most popular methods for how to make coffee involve using an automatic drip, a manual drip, and a French press. Measure the ground coffee into the filter of an automatic drip and pour water into the reservoir. Each 6-ounce cup of coffee will require 3/4 cup of cold water and 1 to 2 tablespoons of fresh coffee grounds. A manual drip coffee brewer requires a little more involvement to use. Measure the coffee into the filter and and bring fresh water to a boil in a kettle. Turn off the heat and allow it to rest for a moment before slowly pouring it over the coffee. Water just under boiling point releases the best and richest elements of the coffee's flavor, giving you a full-bodied cup of coffee. Take care not to overfill the filter basket, giving it a stir to make sure all the grounds are submerged. You may have to wait until some of the coffee drips into the carafe before continuing to pour in the hot water. When using a French press coffee maker, measure the coffee into the carafe and pour tempered hot water directly into the carafe over the coffee grounds. Place the lid on the carafe and allow to brew for four minutes, then press the plunger to the bottom of the carafe to trap the grounds. No matter how you like to drink your coffee, it all starts with choosing the right coffee brewing methods to make the perfect roast!
